Comments about Johnston & Murphy ALDRICH II CAP-TOE:

I've reviewed this shoe before; it is the best dress shoe I've owned. I'm focusing on the refurbishment in this review. I've owned the shoe for over 20 years and had them resoled (with half soles) and heels at least twice. This is the first time I've ever had these (or any shoe) formally refurbished. I'm glad I did. The shoes, with the premium service, look like new. Always buy a shoe that can be refurbished. And use a refurbishment service of the quality of J&M's. This service was as good as the quality of the Aldrich 2 I've bought (4 pairs- 2 black, 2 brown), as well as the Greenwich wingtip. The trampoline cushioning feature is a big plus.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy ALDRICH II CAP-TOE:

I had order the shoe as the store did not stock many C width shoes. My shoes came in about three weeks after the order was places. However when I opened the box one of the shoes was scratched very badly. It looked like it happened during the making of the shoe and not during the shipping. It was so bad that I returned the shoes for a refund. I was very disappointed.

I have three main shoes for work:
      1x Bostonian Toe & Cap
      1x Allen-Edmunds Park Ave
      1x "This one"

These give my more expensive Allen-Edmunds a run for their money. Unfortunately, Johnson & Murphy does not offer this shoe in my size (11-1/2 Wide). My choice was a 11-EEE or a 12-EEE with no custom option available. I figure a little loose is better than little tight so I chose the later and have to wear thick sock to keep my foot from floating in them. I wish they offered custom fitting. I am satisfied but took off one star due to limited available sizes. Other than that, I couldn't ask for better.

The Best! Please Make in British Tan!!

Comments about Johnston & Murphy ALDRICH II CAP-TOE:

I am a size 111/2 E, and it's hard to find shoes that fit properly... I've tried all the other competitor's 'E' shoes, and they all are more narrow than they should be. My foot is also a bit wider towards the heel (I need more arch support, and my foot sits lower than it should), and these shoes accommodate that since they have a well-designed footbed and soft (yet great quality) leather. I have these shoes in all three colors, and rotate them out daily. They have become the only shoes that I wear to work.

Since they have the trampoline comfort system, they are very comfortable, even while commuting, walking, and riding the metro. The break-in period is fast in these shoes since they have the trampoline system versus a full cork sole. Give them about three work days for them to break in.. about 24 hours and they're great!

I would love J&M to introduce a British Tan color in this line for those of us who have these as our go-to shoes! Great product J&M, keep up the good work!

Along with the size, the Aldrich II Cap Toe comes in various widths which appear as letters. The most typical width for men is often "D."

          • Q:

I purchased the Aldrich II Cap-Toe and the salesperson also sold me Johnston and Murphy Cordovan shoe polish. I saw a response from Johnston and Murphy that they recommend Cordovan or Neutral Shoe Polish. Won't the use of cordovan shoe polish change the color of my shoes? I am assuming the neutral polish might cause the color to fade over time. Does Johnston and Murphy see a Dark Cherry shoe polish?

The cordovan is the closest color match to the dark cherry color shoe.

              A:

You can use the neutral polish to SHINE your shoes. The correct way to
polish these shoes is to polish the shoes 3 to 4 times with your cordovan
polish and then on that 4th or 5th time polish them with black polish.
These shoes are originally black and over sprayed with cordovan. This is
how they achieve the marbled antique finish. The shoes will fade with use
of only neutral. By the same token, if you polish them with only cordovan
they will develop lighter spots. Neither one is desirable.
