Comments about Johnston & Murphy Angler Slip-On:

The only, only only issue is that they did not say to pull the insert if you don't need it. I thought they were too tight until I called to complain, and then we she did explain, I felt silly not knowing.
I love these shoes.

I love these shoes! I haven't ventured yet into a puddle to check the waterproofness, but I have worn them to the office and enjoyed their comfort. I have similar pair that are 2 years old and they wear well. I still receive compliments of their looks.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy Angler Slip-On:

I had the older model Angler and I LOVED THEM. If I had gotten the old shoe (3 years ago), I would have rated them a 5 - no doubt. I wore them to Italy and walked everywhere in total comfort. They were getting old, so I bought another pair. They must have changed something because now the same size (10) is very very tight and my foot gets sweaty. And the back loop is high on the shoe and gets caught on my heel and is already loose and disfigured. So it is a chore to wear them now, instead of the pleasure I got from the old ones. And, they are so tight and hot, every time I take them off the inside sole comes out with my foot.
J&M - please go back to the old format!!!!!

I wore the shoes diving 6 hours, walking around in the heat, standing in shops watching my spouse shop, and generally having a good summer day. They took the heat well and my achilles tendon never got tender as it often has with long drives in other shoes.

                  • Q:

I wear either a 10.5 or 11 M depending on the type of J&M shoe. I have an old J&M slip on #20-7440 - size 10.5M that is well-worn but very comfortable. The 10.5 Angler seems quite snug compared to the obsolete 20-7440 slip on, but I am hoping it will loosen up over time. Do you believe the 10.5 M is likely the best size for me? Thanks.

If you take out the removable insole, that may give your foot a little more room and not feel as snug.

Apologies if this is a silly question, but am I correct to assume that this shoe is intended to be worn without socks?

This shoe is meant to be worn without socks. Its material and ventilation holes are made to dry the foot quickly.

why is it a different shoe when I switch between colors of supposedly the same shoe?

                    • A:

This is the same shoe, just different colors/slightly different pattern when switched between colors. The tan version comes with a beige dri-lex mesh that the other two do not have, but they are the same shoe (same fit).
