Comments about Johnston & Murphy Cardell Saddle:

I have two pair, the black/oak and brown/oak. These shoes are very, very comfortable. No break-in period whatsoever. The nubuck leather doesn't appear to require much of anything to keep them looking nice. In other words, no shoe polishing required.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy Cardell Saddle:

The shoes are well made and are super comfortable to wear. They fit my feet like gloves and do not cause any pressure points right out of the box. They go well with practically any color pants and are well suited for business casual, especially if one is on their feet for most part of the day, or walking a lot. I took them to Costa Rica, during which time, I tested the shoes' waterproof capability. They stood up well to the test. Admittedly, it's a horrible way to treat a nice pair of shoes, but that's what they are made for. Besides, I didn't plan the down pours in Costa Rica, a bit unusual for the season. They were subject to some mud as well, but rinsing them off quickly got them back to their glory shape. This is going to be a go-to shoes for my travel now...

On another note, J&M makes very nice stylish shoes, but they don't come in my size. Can J&M please make more shoes to size 7.5? I could have spend tons of money on dress and casual shoes.

        • Q:

I purchased your Cardell Saddle with Dark Brown Nubuck and Oak Full Grain. Do I care for the Nubuck and Full Grain Saddle portion differently? What brushes, cleaning kits, and creams do you suggest for taking care of these shoes?

Also, I need a shinier, dressier shoe as well and I'm considering the Cardell Wingtip as I like the comfort of the Cardell line. Would you recommend it as a dressier shoe than the Cardell Saddle or will it look much the same? I'm also considering the Hannigan Wingtip.

            A:

We carry a Nubuck Cleaning Kit that would work well to care for the suede portion of the shoe. I would suggest using a leather balm or neutral shoe cream for the remainder of the shoe.

In my opinion, I would consider the Cardell Wingtip in the same category as the Cardell Saddle. The Russell Moc Toe Lace-Up has the same comfort system and works as a great dressy shoe. I think the Hannigan Wingtip is much more dressier than the Cardell & Russell.

What type of pants will this shoe go with? Can I wear them with jeans, dress slacks, and casual khakis? Also, will they go out of style? I like to buy traditional things that I won't have to replace every 2 years.

          • A:

This shoe is a relaxed Oxford style. Traditionally, Oxford shoes (lace-ups) are to be worn with dress pants, but this is not a wing-tip shoe and the material is casual, so this shoe is extremely versatile and can be worn with any style of pants. Additionally, this shoe boasts comfort technology and waterproof leathers, so it should keep you comfortable and stylish no matter what pants you choose on any dry or wet weather day.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy Cardell Saddle:

I rotate this shoe with another pair of Johnston & Murphy that I bought at same time. Shoe seems to hold up well to moisture. Concerned about usage of shoe horn daily rubbing the heel which occurred in a pair that was exchanged.

The Cardell Saddle shoes all go up to a size 14. Unless it is a women's shoe you are trying to order, they only go up to a size 10.

We recommend using a leather protector to protect against any stains that may occur other than water.

You can definitely rock these without socks. We do recommend at most if you want to have socks not show to try our sock liners that do not show with jeans or pants

The Cardell Saddle could be worn with a variety of colors depending on which color of shoe. I would recommend any shade khaki to work well with any of these colors.

What type of pants will this shoe go with? Can I wear them with jeans, dress slacks, and casual khakis? Also, will they go out of style? I like to buy traditional things that I won't have to replace every 2 years.
