Comments about Johnston & Murphy CONLEY II WINGTIP:

I wear these Conley II Wingtips to work frequently (3-4 times/week) and also to church and special occasions. They are my best shoes ever. The styling is amazing. They were very comfortable right from the start, and the styling will always be classic. Pricing was decent, and at some point years from now I will take advantage of the refurbish service to protect my investment. Size was perfect. I am a long-time Johnston & Murphy customer and will remain one.

    I absolutely recommend these shoes!

Based on quality of construction and timeless style, these could conceivably last forever.

The only bad thing is that the shoe trees get to wear them more than me.

I have had several top of the line Johnston & Murphy Wingtips. I am assuming that they were Conley II Wingtips. But I owned them some years ago. New styles seem to have a more pointed toe which extends the end of the shoe. If the shoe is not extended, I am interested in purchasing the shoe.

According to our size chart, you would wear size 14.0 EEE. Unfortunately, the Conley is unavailable in this size. The closest thing we have would be a 12.0 EEE or 13.0 E. You may want to be properly sized then take a look at our Custom Select selection.

I have 2 pair of cap toe size e/c width. Can I get the conley wingtip in E/C width?
                    Asked on 2/23/2013 by daryl

                    1 answer

                    • A:

The Conley II Wingtip is available in C, D, E, or EEE widths. According to Taylor at J&M, an "E/C" width shoe indicates that the shoe width is E and the heel is C width. (The heel width is always two sizes smaller then the shoe width so most manufacturers today only state the shoe width unless they deviate from this norm). An E width should be exactly what you are looking for.

The "D/B" is a reference the width of the shoe. "B" is medium or D width on standard lasts.

                      A:

D/B means the shoe was build on a combination last. D is the actual width of the shoe and B is the width of the heel. The width of the heel will always be two widths smaller than the shoe itself.

How does the cork midsole of this shoe compare to the midsole/insole of the Greenwich Wingtip? Is the cork as durable as the Greenwich's EVA? Does cork compress at a faster rate than the EVA? This shoe is considered a "hard-soled" shoe. Doesn't the fiberglass shank of the Greenwich make that a hard-soled shoe?"

                      A:

The Conley II Wingtip is considered to be a "hard soled shoe", meaning that the cork insole molds to the shape of your foot over time to form a sort of custom fit, providing comfort through support rather than an abundance of cushioned layers. The fiberglass shank, present in both shoes, provide support through the heel and arch and would not affect the classification of hard vs. soft soled shoes. With a heritage of 150+ years of craftsmanship and quality, you can rest assured that both the Conley II and Greenwich offer great durability and longevity.

I have mild flat feet and found comfort in my Royal Imperial Florsheim which I believe is out of production. Its size is 8.5 USA but has no mention of feet width.I am considering buying your shoes. Could you please tell me how to decide on the width of my feet when selecting the size of your shoes? Your chart mentions narrow, medium and wide. What is the difference in terms of medial arch support and sole padding between your Conley II Wingtip and your made in Italy Holby Wingtip? Thank you.

                      A:

J&M suggests visiting one of our Retail or Factory stores to have your feet accurately measured for size and width. The specific width of N, M, and W are as follows: Narrow - B, Medium - D, Wide - 2E.

The Conley II Wingtip features a cork midsole for support and comfort, while the Holby Wingtip offers leather linings and a padded insole.

                  • Q:

Are each Conley II wingtips hand made ? What other JM shoe products are actually hand-made ? I'm paying the same price as JM conley II for other shoes which are excellent hand-made products.

                      A:

The Conley II Wingtip is not entirely handmade. The upper is machine-stitched, while the rest of the shoe is handmade. Please check out our Handcrafted in Italy collection for current handcrafted styles.
