Comments about Johnston & Murphy DECATUR SADDLE:

I really like the look and feel of these shoes. Got compliments too. However, the off white laces that came with the shoes I didn't care for. Luckily they also come with black laces. This avoids the bowling shoe look! Overall I love them!

very casual shoe with two types of laces. takes a little getting used to as the shoe is a little stiff the first few times you wear them. overall, i like the shoe and how it can be worn (both casual and a little dressy)

Black and Burgundy are not shown in Wide on site. Is this due to inventory or is this color of the Decatur Saddle not manufactured in Wide?

The Decatur Saddle in black/burgundy was only manufactured in a medium (D) width.

Could you wear either a tan or black belt with the black and tan saddle shoe? Or should it be black because the majority of the shoe is black?

          • Q:

I normally take a 7.5 regular width. It appears the Decatur saddle is not made in this size, but some reviewers comment how the shoe is too narrow (my foot is on the wide side). Would the size 8 be a suitable replacement, or is it gigantic?
Asked on 9/20/2013 by Jim from New England

            1 answer

            • A:

The size 8 on the Johnston & Murphy Decatur Saddle should work well. It is just a little larger than the 7.5 and will give you the extra width you are seeking.

It rains a lot where I live. Is this shoe safe in the rain or water? I notice other shoes say 'waterproof,' but this one does not.

How do you polish the toecap in Tan/Brown Italian Calfskin so that it is slightly darker than the rest of the shoes? I've tried dark brown cream polish and cannot seem to replicate what the shoes looked liked when new in the box.

          • Q:

I believe the shoe has excellent quality in leather and look, however my biggest concern is with comfort. How comfortable are they? Are they easy to walk in and are they as comfortable as the shoes you have with the soft leather lining and rubber soles that are made in Brazil and have white stitching and have a cut down the center held to together with the white stitching.
