Shoes are comfortable to wear right out of the box. They come with 2 sets of laces. I decided to go with the dark gray color - they look stylish. The lighter set might make the shoes look like bowling shoes. All in all, great shoes for the price.

Hi. I am a little surprised by the distressed look of these shoes. I would prefer a more polished look. Any suggestions how to achieve the same. Thanks. Srinivas

It is recommended to use a neutral shoe cream to give the Decatur Wingtip a more polished look.

I have the Waverly Wingtip Oxford shoe in a 9.5 D and it fits my foot like a glove. Will this shoe in a 9.5 M fit the same? I previously purchased a similar J&M 9.5 M italian made shoe and it was a bit too narrow for me. The length was fine though.

Italian made shoes have a more narrow cut. The Decatur Wingtip should fit fine.

            • A:

These shoes will fit very similarly to the Waverly Oxford shoes. They run true-to-size, but can be a bit on the narrow-side. I would stick to the same size if that worked for you. There is a free return slip in the box if they don't work out.

          • Q:

I bought this shoe along with the J & M leather balm. My question is that the leather balm says not to use on suede and the product description says the Decatur Wingtip is "Italian calfskin and waxed suede". So, may I use the leather balm, or (and I feel stupid, as the wording seems plainly prohibitory) not on this shoe?
            Asked on 12/19/2012 by Anonymous

            1 answer

            • A:

You can use the balm because it is waxed suede, which is suede that has already been treated/polished. This is different from the regular, brushed suede that has not been treated.

            • A:

No, the website allows you to filter your searches. The simplest way is by clicking Shoes, then Mens. Just above the pictures, you will see a search filter. This allows you to choose narrow width, as well as desired color, size, and occasion if you wish.

As mentioned in several reviews, i can go either way between distressed and a more polished look depending on the shoe. One reviewer mention using J&M shoe cream to shine them up. Which color cream was used?

Polishing shoes can be tricky since certain colors are harder to polish than others. I would recommend using a clear wax to keep the shoe rich in color.

Hi - just want to be sure, is the Decatur designed in such a way that the sole can be replaced? It's been awhile since I bought a pair of shoes and it seems nowadays many shoes have prefabbed soles where they cannot be replaced.

I had a pair of Cole Haan shoes with a similar sole as the Decatur Wingtip and my local cobbler was able to replace it with a leather sole for $40.00. Turned out great!

All of Johnston & Murphy's shoes are sized the same. If you wear a size 10 in the Melton and Stricklin, then you will need a size 10in the Decatur Wingtip.
