Comments about Johnston & Murphy Est. 1850 Leather Messenger Bag:
It's a beautiful bag! I'm a fan of things that are simple and functional. This bag is both of those things and more. It's perfect for daily use to carry work files, notepads, magazines and my other electronics. It has plenty of pockets and compartments for keys and breath mints. I could easily fit my work laptop (15-inch Thinkpad) in the laptop section. It's an all around great bag and I miss it.
I got this bag from my dad as a Christmas and graduation gift. I loved this bag while I had it. My dad's a blue collar guy who worked like a dog to get me through school. He said he wanted me to have the bag so I could "look like one of the young business guys on TV." Seeing the price of the bag and knowing how hard he works, it makes me sick to know someone stole it from me. I only used it for a few weeks before it was stolen. I don't have the heart to tell him somebody stole it. But I can't afford to buy a new one right now (rent, etc.).
All in all, it's a great bag. You won't be disappointed. Although I didn't have mine for very long, I suspect that it'll last a long time and age well. It's a high quality bag unlike the others I owned before.

Q:How water resistant is the leather and if rained on will it ruin the leather or die my clothes?Asked on 8/16/2012 by Dave from New York, NY
A:Leather is inherently waterproof as long as it isn't suede. This bag looks to be the regular leather variety and will not allow water to enter and stain its contents as long as it not submerged.Answered on 8/17/2012 by Community Answer from None
A:The 1850 Messenger Bag is not waterproof nor is it water resistant. We recommend using the Leather Protector (item no. 93-400) to help protect the leather from water stains.Answered on 8/27/2012 by Taylor from J&M
