I've received quite a few positive comments about these shoes. After purchasing them in brown I went back to J&M and purchased another pair in black. They work well with casual suits and can dress down for dark jeans and a blazer. All around great shoes.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy HARTLEY PLAIN TOE:

Great shoe, what I would expect from J&M. It has worn very well and is very comfortable. I have a black pair but have been waiting for the brown to go on sale to get those as well. Usually I am 10.5 or 11 but I had to go a 10 on these, after the break in they fit perfect, so go a half size down from what you usually wear would be my recommendation.

                • Q:

I have tried on J&M's Bicycle's recently, but have decided to go more formal. I am interested in both the Hartley Plain Toe and the Waverly Wingtips. I am concerned about size, fit and stretch since the 12's seemed a bit tight and maybe a smidge short and the 13's a bit long but felt much better in the width. Both were in Medium or D width. I have a high instep, as well. Would you suggest a 12 Wide or stick with the 13 Mediums?

If it is available in the style you are considering, I would suggest trying a 12 Wide rather than the 13 Medium.

The frequency of use is determined by a number of variables including frequency of wear, environment of wear, etc. I suggest applying shoe cream about every 8-10 wears.
