I had some reservations and was considering AE but I am very satisfied with my Hutchins. I find the last/styling of this model much more attractive and construction/fit just as good as AE. I have the Hutchins cap toe boot also and get many compliments. I originally wasn't a fan of JM but hope they continue in this direction with more stylish contemporary lasts.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy HUTCHINS WINGTIP:

I travel every week and wear this shoe for work. Easy to get out of at the airport, if need be. The cushioning is comfortable and helps with the standing and walking I do. The heavier feel to the shoe gives it a look and feel of substance. I remember a coworker had a similar pair about 30 years ago and inquired. Cost back then was $150. I really like the traditional appearance of this shoe and so far it looks as good as new (6 months old) and expect them to last for 5 or more years.

This is my favorite JM shoe (of ~5 pair). I would recommend these over both pairs business dress AE shoes I own.

I bought these shoes since they literally feel like I am walking on pillows. These shoes are more comfortable than walking on a 5000 thread cotton egyptian cotton carpet all day. Plus I get a ton of compliments from all the nurses on the floor saying how stylish the shoes are. You can never go wrong with a classic brown wingtip and with the comfort and goodyear welt I will get these re-soled and wear them for many years to come.

I liked the initial quality of product in terms of the leather.
It will need some break in time as the leather is thick, but seems very durable and will look like a quality shoe when worn a bit.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy HUTCHINS WINGTIP:

These are the most expensive shoes I've ever purchased. I've been searching the market for brown wingtips for a long time and never found anything that I truly loved until I found these J&M shoes. They are extraordinarily comfortable, the leather is durable and long-lasting, and you can tell that these are high quality shoes. My only complaint is that the soles have the Goodyear rubber which kinda ruins the look a bit in my opinion, but it does make the soles last longer when constantly walking the NYC sidewalks.

Admittedly, since purchasing the shoes I've seen others online that are comparable in style and at lower prices, but I believe this was a solid purchase because I could try the J&M shoes on and I knew they were comfortable.

Comments about Johnston & Murphy HUTCHINS WINGTIP:

After looking at some of the leading high end shoe brands for brown wingtips, I could not be happier with my purchase of the Hutchins Wingtip.

As a student who needs a pair of shoes functional enough for an interview, class, or a night out; I have found these shoes able to dress up or down depending on the occasion. In the past I have frequently worn down the bottoms of my shoes, but these seem incredibly durable in addition to their extreme comfort and style.

My one criticism with these is their lack of grip on the sole. I have found they do not get along with marble or other smooth surfaces.

Most of the differences between the Hutchins Wingtip and the Greenwich Wingtip lie in the style of the shoes. The Greenwich Wingtip may be considered dressier and classic in comparison, because of its polished finish. The Hutchins Wingtip has a more modern look that may be worn dressed up or dressed down.

      • Q:

Can this good looking shoe really be worn for casual wear? For example, with tan khakis and a polo shirt in the summer and a sport shirt and seater in the fall and winter? (I don't wear jeans.) There is something about a wing tip that has always had a dressy look to it.

How do these look different from TYNDALL WINGTIP? Specifically, I like what appears to be a varied tone of the different leather pieces of the TYNDALL WINGTIP and wonder if these look similar.

If you need a cream with color you should order the light brown, otherwise I personally would use the neutral shoe cream.
