Comments about JohnstonΜrphy Angler Two-Eye Boat:

Overall a great shoe, BUT it runs small and narrow. I normally am a 9.5W or 10M - had to go for to a 10.5M - and in retrospect should have tried an 11, because the 10.5 still is a bit small. Overall design is good and the heel portion of the leather is of proper hight, giving good support and fit.

The 2 insole (fits regular and wide) approach that J&M has taken in their XC4 line, is a hare brain idea. just because you move the foot lower does not mean it fits the width of your foot. A real "Shoe Dog" would never agree to this approach. YES it does increase the volume, but it also moves the sides of the shoe up and creates a shafing effect for many - especially on the outside of the foot, including myself. It is nevertheless great because it now allows the addition of a proper insole that provides good arch support (like orthaheel or super feet - manufacturers wake up - there is margin to be made by providing good insoles). So all in all a great shoe, BUT the fit is tough - and mine might go back after all

I intend to wear this shoe on my boat. Is the shoe's sole specifically designed to be non-marking on a white gelcoat boat deck?

The Angler Two-Eye Boat Shoe has a rubber sole. It is not specifically designed to be non-marking. Personally I would not wear this sole on a white gelcoat deck.

                  Hi There-
I am wondering about the "One-Way water dispersion holes" within this shoe? How does it work? Presumably, they can't be "one-way", but would allow water ingress as well? Then, of course, they would also allow drainage...(which would be fine really), But "one-way"?! Really?! Please explain! Because what an amazing feature if it is!
                  Cheers-
                  Marty

                  1 answer

                  • A:

The patented H2O drainage technology is located in the sole of the shoe. The sole contains a small cavity that allows water to accumulate if the shoe fills with water. As the pressure from the weight of the wearer presses on the top of the cavity, it forces the water through three one way valves. As the weight of the wearer is taken off the shoe during a step, the valve is forced closed preventing water from entering the cavity and the shoe. The stepping action actually acts as a pump to rid the shoe of water.

                  • A:

Yes, there is good reason to believe this shoe will work for wear without socks because reviews on the Internet indicate other shoes of this same brand are good for wear without socks.
